Reflecting on Shredded Coast
Feb 02, 2026
I’ve been reflecting on a series of works, titled Shredded Coast, and thought it might be interesting to share some more details. These paintings are explorations of the landscape surrounding the Atlantic coastal defence wall, built during the German occupation of France in the second World War.
Details of various paintings
Details of Shredded Nº 1, mixed media collage and acrylic on canvas.
France’s coastal regions are steadily changing, due to movement of sand inland. Over time, this quiet erosion turns once-thriving woodlands into exposed, fragile terrain.

Final thoughts
The series grew out of observing how these shorelines are being reshaped by rising seas, warming temperatures and human impact.
Completing this body of work is my way of marking what is changing, quietly and steadily, and acknowledging a landscape that has influenced me for years.
The collection can be viewed in more detail and paintings purchased via my website.
